Wirebird Designs is my studio, where I create thoughtful, well-made pieces through modern and traditional upholstery, bespoke soft furnishings, and custom lampshades. I’m passionate about craftmanship, good design, and making objects that are built to last.
My love of interiors started when I worked for Liberty’s in London. I went on to gain my qualification in upholstery and was the winner of the ‘Medal for Excellence’ for my work by City & Guilds. I take pride in craftmanship that celebrates the past while embracing the future – thoughtful, sustainable, and made to last.
I work closely with each client, whether I’m restoring a well-loved piece of furniture or designing something completely new. My approach combines traditional techniques with a contemporary eye, always guided by materials, the space, and how the finished piece will be used and lived with.
I originally studied fashion at the University of Westminster, gaining a BA (Hons) degree. My background in fashion and upholstery has given me a deep appreciation for design, detail, and the tactile beauty of materials – qualities that guide every piece I create.
Alongside my commission work, I offer classes in upholstery and soft furnishings. Since gaining my PGCE in Further Education I have been teaching a mix of adult education and qualification courses in Modern Upholstery, Traditional Upholstery and Soft Furnishings for over eight years. Teaching is a big part of my practice, and I love sharing skills, building confidence, and helping others develop their own making practice – whether they are complete beginners or looking to deepen existing skills.
